We were not moving as fast as usual this morning. I think the fact that we are not 25 anymore had something to do with it... Really, ya think...Staying up for 36 hours straight took its toll, even though we just got up we were still dragging tail. We walked over to the Food Lion as I wanted to pick up some Ped-a-lite for Bella. She hadn't eaten the whole over night passage and I like to have it on hand in case she isn't feeling well. I made spinach omelet for breakfast, tidied up the cabin and we headed down the river. It is pretty on the Dismal Swamp with the leaves changing color and falling every time the wind blows. Not much else to see other trees, we did past the Superintendent home which was falling apart. I tried to take a picture but I was to late by time I found my camera. But one thing I can tell you is they must not pay him much money. To live in a place like that, not a lot of people trying to get that job I bet..Boarded up old house falling down. One of his jobs must be to maintain the mile markers on the river. We hadn't had them on the Virgina Cut, kind of nice. They do have a special bridge for a farmer who takes his cattle across the river and we were advised we may have to wait while they cross, but alas we didn't see any cows. However we did see the bridge and so will you..Found my camera.. We arrived in North Carolina before we knew it and tied up to the dock at the Welcome Center. This was neat.. It held about 3 boats on the dock and others just raft up to the ones on the dock. What fun, the boat that rafted up to us had Ron and Lena from Utah. They were very nice and Lena was a riot, she cracked me up.. Carl and I helped Lena put on some netting for bugs, while Ron worked on their oil system.  This was quite the show to watch, good thing Lena had Velcro..The boat behind us had Bob and Brenda from Conn. they were traveling to the islands. Brenda also does a blog like me, so today I will check that out. In front of us was Lee and Linda who were from Manhattan with their dog Maggie. They were also going to the islands. The other boat was called Jenny from South Carolina but I forgot the man's name, oops. Anyway it was fun talking to everyone and rafting up, great experience for our first time doing this. During the day we had taken a walk in the State Park for the Dismal Swamp and checked out the Visitor's Center. It was like an museum with all the history of the swamp. It was dug by slaves and it was horrible how they were treated. I hate this part of our history... George Washington was one of the first land owners here. He owned 40,000 arces and the first guy to have slaves working here, harvesting trees. This Visitors Center is the only one with boats on the river and cars on the highway, taking care of both forms of traffic. Pretty cool, nice idea. Evening brought the rain and all went inside, which was good with us as we were still tired from the night passage. This morning everyone but us left out early, we will catch up later.
