It was a short ride to our next destination through Elliot Cut. Still we had to wonder where we were.. There was a windmill on the side of the bank.. Am I back in Holland?..So here we are in Charleston, South Carolina... We just don't seem to be getting to far north to fast, good thing we don't have a shedule..Well after trying to find a place to have the water pump rebuilt we ended up having to send it by mail back to Clearwater. The numerous place that we called did not repair them and the one place in the marina where we are anchored off shore wanted $98.00 per hour. He didn't know how long it would take to fix and he couldn't even look at it until Wednesday sometime .Are you kidding me ..we are budget sailors.. we can't have some king of huge bill..So we called Depco Pump Co. in Clearwater where Carl got it and asked if they knew a place local we could take it to. They said if you overnight it to them they will fix it right away and overnight it back for only $34.50 plus parts. That a price we can live with..It certainly will save us money even with the cost of shipping. Carl removed the part and then our adventure in Charleston began..We are anchored off of the Charleston City Marina, this place is enormous.. they have humongous yachts from all over the world. I am pretty sure the boat from the movie Overboard is docked just across from us... Also the country of Bikini most have lots of wealthy people cause every boat we see with that on the stern is outrageous..I looked up the post office on the computer and called them to get directions. Also got one off the computor for the Best Buy so we can get what we need to listen to our IPod. We dingy over to the dingy dock, at a cost of $5.00 a day(we got lucky the girl who wrote our pass, mistakenly wrote it was good for 5 days)...Yeah... We asked where the closest bus route was and the guy on the golf cart that worked for the marina looked at us like we had 3 heads.. of course he didn't know on one, people on these boats don't use the bus.. The guy at the post office told us to take a right outside the marina, but Carl said it didn't look like we would find a bus that way, and the guy gave us directions for a car..So we took a left and found the bus line. Many buses passed by so I called the phone number on the sign and the lady walked me down the street to where we needed to catch a bus. That was great... Once there that was when we started getting all kinds of different directions. Advise from everyone waiting for the bus, people on the bus, and the bus driver. All told us to get off at the visitors center and take a contrasting routes. We decided to walk it, one large lady said it was way to far, another slim man said it was only a couple of blocks. After much decussen on which way to go we were off and again a man on the street told us a alternative route..We finally made the post of with 10 minutes to spare, it was 4:50 and they closed at 5pm.. Yeah baby that's how we do it...We walked by a replica of a Civil War submarine outside the historical museum so we took Carl picture..Tried to take a bus to the Best Buy again with the conflicting info and we gave up and just went back to where we started to try again tomorrow. Back on the boat Bella went crazy when we boarded, she doesn't like be left on the boat...but she can't go on the bus.. Sorry my precious puppy... I made fish picatta for dinner and watched 2 Broke Girls on the TV( love that show) and then it was out in the cockpit to enjoy the area, yachts to one side and anchored boats like us to the other..The Coast Guard base is right here and we got to see them practice a rescue of someone from the water. Helicopter hovering over head, lights on the water, someone jumps in and they bring people out... This was one of the neatest things I have ever seen. and boy it made us feel very safe..Very cool...Each port is different, how wonderful it is to be able to see all that we have... Loving life...
