Our first sailing cruise from Florida, to the coast of Maine, and all that happens on the way.

We pulled anchor at about 10:30 am and headed south for Anna Maria Island. At first the winds were east-south-east at about 10 knots & smooth seas, good sailing. After about an hour &half they changed to a south winds rit on the nose of the boat. Carl starting tacking back and forth to get us to our destination and the seas turn rough, (not great sailing with a hanger over) and I was looking pretty shade of green. Carl said it was time to start up the iron jenny so we could make headway. I must say I was of no help. All I could do was try not to lose the wonderful brunch we had of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, what a great cook I am. We arrived into calmer waters and things got a lot better. We reached Bradenton Beach Pier at about 6:30pm. It was decided that we would go ashore and let Bella have a little shore leave. As Carl prepared the dingy with lights and our motor, he advised me that he had never driven a outboard motorboat and this would be his 1st attempt. Let me just say what confidence this gave me, but alas I know he can handle about anything and I can swim, Bella was in her life jacket and off we went. Being as tall as Carl is he didn't fit on the back seat and able the motor about so he had to kneel in between the 2 seats, of the comfort of it all. When safely at the dingy dock, we were met by a lady with a dog who said she couldn't control her dog or get up to get her, as Bella is barking and wanting to play. A last her man showed up and took the dog to her. There are many boats at the pier and lets just say most are not to nice. Carl didn't feel safe leaving our boat for to long so Bella's shore leave was short. We listened to NOAA radio and found out that winds would not be favorable today, so we did all our morning stuff, exercise, coffee and general picking things up and pulled the hook and headed south to Long Boat Key where there is a small park. Today will be a day for Bella, while we wait for favorable winds.

hugs...prayin for a tail wind
ReplyDeleteKnowing Carl, he'll be driving that dingy as easy as he sails the Windward Spirit. Give him a minute with anything he takes on and he'll get it done! Wishing for good winds and favorable weather. We love you guys!
