Our first day on the Okeechobee Waterway and it is a lot different then the Gulf intercoastal waterway. Yes you still see big expensive homes ,but it a slow quiet kind of journey on the Caloosahatchee River. I am enjoying it alot. It reminds me of the Suwanee River in North Florida. Almost no traffic on the river so boats aren't rocking our world every few minutes. YEAH!!! At times we are never sure where we are because of what we have seen, like a camel... We knew we would see horses and cows but a camel, just what does that farmer feed it, Hay?! We went through our first lock today and as you could see by the photo's there was a huge monster boat behind us. It made me a little nervous at first, but this was very cool and a great experience. Thanks to the guide that Mary Francis and Jimbo gave us we saw that the town of La Belle had a city dock with short walk to town. We decided to go there for some tranny fluid and fresh veggies. Carl had to do a little work on the tranny , but all's well today.  As we approached the dock, Carl was taking it slow and had the boat in reverse when we bumped the keel, he backed out quickly. No running aground today. We anchored across the river and dingyed in . Love the motor on the dingy, we could have never made it across without it, strong current. At the local Save Alot there was a man with a truck load of corn, so we got 6 ears for $1.00 fresh corn tonight. Upon our return to the dock, there were 3 small kids playing there. They were very interested in Bella and our boats. They wanted to know if we lived on it, and why we didn't have a house. We tried to explain. They wanted to know if we had a kitchen, where do we sleep. the littlest one thought we lived in the dingy. Needless to say this gave us a big smile and we enjoyed our little town adventure. We continued up the river were Carl found an empty dock in the middle of nowhere and we tyed up for the night. Carl tryed his hand at throwing a cast net, when a group of Mexican men came to where we were docked and we watched to see how he did it. Carl got better with every throw. The man tossing the net reported that there were no fish here today and he left.Carl tried to fish with a pole , but still no luck. Yes it was a vegetarian dinner tonight.
